It's Monday, What Are You Reading? August 2 Edition

I don't know how interested you guys are in seeing pictures of my baby, but every time I post pictures, you guys tell me how cute you think she is. (Thanks for that, by the way). So, until I hear otherwise, you will get baby updates from time to time.

Abigail LOVES to watch TV. She must be her mother's daughter. I have to face her towards the TV otherwise she will crane her neck around to watch instead of playing with her toys.





In a fit of insanity last night I volunteered to be a third round judge for Nerds Heart YA.  I've got to read the two books and make a decision by August 7. Wish me luck.

I'm making a change to the Nightshade T-Shirt contest. I'm extending it one more week, and I'm adding an ARC of MATCHED by Ally Condie to the possible winning pile. So, go enter!

This weekend I had a wonderful vacation at Bear Lake, ID. Thanks to everyone who participated in my impromptu #whereisem Twitter giveaway. I was sad to return home on Monday to my hot desert home.  Here are a couple of my favorite pictures from the day:

Those are my sisters holding Abigail. She is their only niece, so of course they love to hold and spoil her.

I've got two contests going right now. (I know, I swore I wouldn't do any contests for awhile after my blogiversary thingy. But, I just love to give people things)

My, what a week. If any of you are on Twitter, you may have noticed my rather depressing tweets over the last week. I lost my keys (and no, I have not found them yet). Then we found out a few weeks ago that there was a possibility my husband may have lung cancer. (I don't know if I've ever mentioned this before on my blog, but last year he was diagnosed with brain cancer and we had to deal with all the treatments and such while I was pregnant. Luckily, he is cancer free now. And yes, it was a shock, my husband is 25 years old.) But, the scan for lung cancer came back clean. Then, found out my car required $1,500 in repairs to get it running on natural gas again (which isn't totally vital, but at $.97 a gallon for gas, it's cheaper), ran out of gas on the freeway, and my grandfather passed away. So, I'm kind of feeling a little overwhelmed. But, I have very good friends, family, and an understanding employer. And, a lot of things happened last week that restored my faith in the goodness of mankind. I'm going to make it just fine.

Now, with that out of the way, here's what happened with reading last week.

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? 6/7

I'm getting out of my reading slump. I spent a week on a book last week and only finished half of it. That never happens to me, so I just gave up on it. I might pick it up again another time. But, after I gave up on that one I finished two books.




Reviews will be coming in the next week for both of those as well as a giveaway of each. In fact, I have a SIGNED copy of Spells and Wings for a lucky reader.

As far as reading, my goal is to read three books this week:

I've decided to go with the blogging design feature idea, so this week I'll be posting my first one. That will probably be Thursday, so be watching for it.

What a week! My first week back at work went well, I had two major work events this weekend but everything went smoothly.  I've got a lot of really awesome things planned for my blog in the next month. Seriously, it's going to be epic. But, it's taking all my free time to plan and organize.  I did manage to get a few things read though:

The Tension of Opposites by Kristina Mcbride: I'll get a review up sometime next week since the book comes out May 25.

The Amaranth Enchantment by Julie Berry: I'm working on a review now. It's been difficult since I've got mixed feelings about the book.

The Mermaid's Mirror by L.K. Madigan: I won't have a review posted on this until September sometime since it doesn't come out until October 4.

What's up for this week?

Shadow Hills by Anastasia Hopcus: I've got big plans for this ARC, so I've got to get it read this week!

The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

Other items of blogging business

I'm helping to organize a fun week of events for those bloggers who aren't going to BEA this year.

Also, it's my blogiversary June 1st. I've got a lot of really awesome things in the works for it. I'm not ready to go into too many details, let's just say I've got over $150 in prizes lined up.

Oh, and it's Children's Book Week. Our library is doing a big bash on Saturday, and guess who is going to be there? Shannon Hale! So, I've got to plan on how to not be a total fan girl when I meet her. And, Mette Ivie Harrison will be there as well. I'm oh so excited!
