I just wanted to make sure y'all know that this coming Thursday, I will be the guest blogger on http://www.jewelsturning30.com/.
I can't wait! I've been stressing, but that's so me. Writing for Jewels has been an absolute joy. I hope y'all will check it out...and I sure hope y'all like the post. :)
PLUS, I have an award to give out!! Yay! I'm working on the award post now and will publish it tomorrow (had hoped to have it posted today, but time just got away from me).
Oh, and the news stirring up Dallas fans: Troy Aikman is getting a divorce. Didn't expect to see those headlines while searching for Dallas Cowboys news. I truly hope things will work out in the best possible way for them all.

Now That Devil-Nose Is Open For Business...
...I can smell again, which, of course, means a 3 a.m. panic when what smelled like something burning reached my nostrils. I was utterly terrified. I ran everywhere, trying to find the source of the smell, but I found absolutely nothing. Could it have been someone's fireplace? I dunno. It was freaky. Really, really freaky. I didn't sleep at all--just sat up watching tv, trying to do some work, while acting as watcher for the house.
So, because my brain is totally scattered right now, this post will be totally random.
1. Soda confession: Yeah. I had the soda. It tasted so darn good. It was like liquid candy. I'm back on the water now. Reckon one soda isn't too bad. Strangely, the water tastes better than it did prior to the soda. Go figure.
2. As a Dallas Cowboys fan, gotta tell ya, not thrilled over the Super Bowl this year. Personally, if the Cowboys couldn't be in it, I would have liked to see the Jets and Atlanta/Saints/Bears battle it out in Cowboys' Stadium. Instead, we have two teams that have impacted my Cowboys in very, very negative ways over the years. Anyone heard of the Ice Bowl? Yeah. I wasn't even born yet, but I think I started hearing that story when I was in the womb. Super Bowl. Sigh.
3. Say Yes To The Dress and The Single Sandwich: While channel surfing, I stumbled across that TLC show, Say Yes To The Dress, and it reminded me of something I saw last fall/early winter. Imagine being a single woman watching a show about other women getting married and shopping for dresses. Now, imagine the show going to a commercial break. What kind of commercial would you expect? Some random diet commercial, maybe? How about one of those jewelry commercials? They would fit the theme right?
Now, imagine suddenly hearing the original version of All By Myself as the camera focuses in on a lonely sandwich on a plate. Oh, I'm not kidding. Weddings--marriage--wedding gowns...and a commercial that blares All By Myself while featuring food.
What marketing/advertising genius came up with that little gem? What idiot thought it would be a good idea to air an ad featuring THAT song during a show about wedding dresses? Seriously. Absolute idiot.
4. Delusional people: I don't get them. We're talking people who think they are seriously famous when all they are known for is getting drunk and acting trashy. Suppose it doesn't help that they are awarded with book deals, spokesperson gigs, etc. Really, I don't get it. It's scary to hear how many delusional folks are in this world.
5. Wasn't: For the first time, I didn't play his game. In the past, I oftentimes unwittingly played, hoping it would lead to a solid friendship, at the very least. Since retiring from the game, I have to admit...I feel great. It's like a huge weight has been lifted and I can breathe again.
Uh, yeah, so my brain just kinda stopped thinking. Clearly, the lack of sleep and serious stress from last night/early this morning is catching up with me.
I'll just leave you with a good, upbeat Monday-kind-of song. Groove a little--feel happy.

Sticky Willoughby
One of the first rules of soap opera writing: characters recur, even in the most ridiculously impossible ways.
Too bad I didn't really think about that when I wrote myself out of Wasn't's script.
Note: When writing yourself out of someone's story, prepare for that someone to come back and write himself into yours.
Wasn't makes a cameo: Saturday, I awoke to a message from Wasn't. He was just needling me about football--friendly competitive stuff. Although...he did call me "baby."
Me, groggy, reacting to the message: "Baby? As in 'I carried a watermelon?' (Dirty Dancing reference, for those who don't know). He never uses the word 'baby.' Ugh."
I didn't respond.
Today, I had another needling message waiting for me. This time, he made it personal--a backhanded comment slapping my Dallas Cowboys in the face. Not cool.
My initial reaction was to send him a fiery reply. Then a light bulb went off--he's trying to get under my skin; he knows what gets to me...what gets me to respond. Clever. Very clever.
I haven't responded, but an interesting little thought did cross my mind: By trying to get under my skin, I have to wonder just how much my non-response has gotten under his.

Weekend Round-Up...And It's A Doozy
What started as a nice, peaceful White Christmas-filled weekend, quickly turned into one mind boggling situation after another. By Sunday night, I really thought I had been thrown by several different bulls, each one significantly nastier than the last.
First up: Sports: Cam Newton won the Heisman--surprise, surprise. I really have mixed feelings on this one. Hey, if the NCAA will allow Cam to win the Heisman, shouldn't they return Reggie Bush's? Just sayin'. Mavs won--hurray! Cowboys lost to Philly last night--boo hiss, BUT they stayed in the game until the end; much improved team, despite dealing with injuries at key positions. Still proud of them.
Mom Turns Into A Werewolf: Okay, not really, but when she is hungry, part the dang waters and get out of the way. This is especially true since she has been sick--she can't eat as much, has restrictions on diet...and she has hit her limits, which I discovered firsthand.
Saturday Morning: My mom didn't expect me to be there, but I was talking to dad about some Christmas things. Mom walks through the hallway with a tray--on said tray is one type of food she CANNOT have. When she saw me, her face turned red, and her eyes screamed, "Aw, crap, I just got caught."
Me: "Mom, what is that on your tray?"
Mom: "Huh? What darlin'? What are you doing anyway?"
Me: "Talking to Dad about Christmas, but that's beside the point, and I totally see that you are trying to shift the topic away from what is on your plate."
Mom: "I'm only eating half. I'll be fine."
Me: "You really want to try it? I mean, you've been doing better, right? And you haven't had any of that crap, right? Why on earth would you want to shove some of that in your stomach, knowing it could cause a severe flare up?"
Uh, yeah, shouldn't have said anything.
Mom: "If this is how I have to live my life...I'm hungry. I want my junk food. I don't want to be good. It's only a stupid half! It won't hurt me! And I'm your mama, young lady--you shouldn't tell me what I should and should not eat."
Me, stunned: "Whoa, Mom, I was only trying to help. I don't want you to have to go through another episode. I just..."
Mom: "I'll be fine. And I'm gonna eat what I want. You can, so why can't I?"
Me: "Because you get sick!"
Mom: "Humf, just a technicality."
*Note: After making were-mom's acquaintance, I later learned she did NOT eat the culprit-food and she said later on: "Baby girl, I'm sorry for being so crabby earlier. I was hungrier than a bitch wolf. Had you gotten any closer, you might have pulled back a nub." We hugged it out.
BFF: Totally has a reindeer up his rear. Foul mood personified. I swear, he is the only person I know who cheers for the hot green house in Frosty the Snowman or gets ticked when the abominable snowman turns nice in Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. He is absolutely impossible to talk to right now.
Wasn't: Honestly, I'm tired of the whole thing. I've tried to be his friend, but it's hard to be friends with someone who has no clue what it means to be a friend. Did I tell you that he asked for my mom's advice on his "relationship?" Well, he did. So, as a friend, what did I do? Went to my mama and got her advice, of course. That's what friends do. She put a lot of thought and heart into her advice...and over an hour of contemplating what she feels is going on with them. That's what people who care about others do. Wasn't...never called to get her advice, despite saying he would "in a few days." It's been about three weeks. That's not what friends do.
Mr. Bo Tangles: Oh, yes, I couldn't escape yet another humdinger.
Mr. Bo Tangles: "Hey, I just wanted to tell you...there are so many women who want to be with me, but I chose you."
Me, mouth gaping: "Uh...oh, well..."
Mr. Bo Tangles: "Let me finish. Now, I'm not going to argue why you are pulling back from me. I know the truth. What you are is no joke. I know you're an innocent. So, now, it makes complete sense. You're just scared to get involved with someone passionate, like me."
Me, nearly choking while thinking: Well, he's partially right, but it has nothing to do with my V card. "Honestly, I don't think I'm what you are looking for." Wasn't I nice? I could have said, "Honestly, I think you're a controlling, dull, a-hole." I didn't...that would have been rude.
Mr. Bo Tangles: "You're wasting your goods...you should be sharing them, enjoying them. I worry about your well-being. I'm here to help you with your predicament."
Me: "Well, thank you for your opinion and your concern, but I'm doing just fine on my own. And I don't consider my situation a predicament...it's a choice, and I'm content with it. So, thank you for your offer, but I'm good." What I wanted to say: "Well, having to change who I am to be with you just so I can say I've been there, done that, would be far, far worse than being a single virgin for eternity." Again, I stayed polite.
So, this is what its been reduced to: an offer from a not-so-nice man to help me with my "predicament." Fantastic.
Yeah. Odd, odd weekend.

Cowboys-Colts--One Word: AWESOME.
I'm sorry for anyone who missed this one, for this game has it all, including a trademark Manning comeback.
In the end, we went into overtime, where the Cowboys intercepted a tipped Manning pass to set up the game winning field goal.
Cowboys win in OT! Great game, truly. Both teams played their hearts out--can't ask for much more than that.
Jason Garrett has this team playing with conviction and heart.
On deck? Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles. Yeah. Well....we just won't think about it right now.
Way to go Cowboys! My 'Boys are coming back!!!

Halftime Thoughts: Cowboys, Cam Newton, and The Bum-Hunters
So, it's halftime of the Dallas game--thought I would pop over and relieve my mind of some rather annoying thoughts...lucky for y'all, right? *NOTE: By the time I finish this, the game will be back on, no doubt.
Cowboys: Looking good against Peyton Manning and the Colts. We have some work to do. i.e. O-Line, Kicker. Confession: I was wrong about Kitna. He's been playing on par with, if not better than, Romo. His numbers are impressive, but, more importantly to this rabid fan, he WANTS to succeed; he's passionate about this team. His reactions on the field SHOW fans just how much he cares. THIS is something you just don't get from Romo, at least I don't.
If you think about it, we have a 38-year-old, unquestionably passionate back-up QB, putting up Romo-esque numbers, helping the team get points, and putting the Cowboys in position to get wins each week. Hmm. Makes you think.
Cam Newton: Yeah, I don't get it. He's a great player--not arguing that fact. It just annoys the holy heck out of me that the Bum-Hunters (i.e. announcers/Heisman voters) think the sun shines out his rear (guess they would know, since they spend most of their time in said region). Yesterday during the SEC Championship game, I thought the announcers were quite literally going to go down on the field and kiss the kid; they just sang his praises to the point of eww-ville.
I mean, he's a great player...with a shady past, involving questionable integrity/honesty/morality. But, hey, so long as he plays well, why should those things matter? Who cares about honestly, integrity, and morals, right? He's going to win the Heisman because it's all about what you do on the field; who gives a hoot about the person behind the player...right?
Sad, but that seems to be the direction our society is moving. Maybe someone needs to take it back and make a stand.
Oh, and, for future reference, Mr. Bum-Hunter-announcers, please know that Cam is NOT the first multi-talented QB (Vince Young, anyone? Texas Longhorns? Hello??) and I dare say he will not be the last.
Okay, rant over...and my Cowboys just scored....must go.

A Happy Thanksgiving...With A Dash Of Panic And A Sprinkle Of Nausea
I hope everyone had a wonderful, safe, healthy, and happy Thanksgiving Day.
Ours was wonderful (minus the Cowboys loss--will cover in a moment). My mom felt well enough to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner. She was overwhelmed and proud that I undertook the whole dinner on my own (with her as my coach, of course--really, the Cowboys should hire her) and actually pulled it off. Seeing her happy and smiling made my day.
The sweet potatoes turned out just right, thank goodness. My mom eyeballs the ingredients, so I didn't have real measurements to go by with this one...I had to guess--really not a good idea for me. Maybe I had Thanksgiving luck on my side or something. Whatever it was, I am grateful.
Turkey: Well, no one told me just how grotesque it is to remove the, um, insides of the thing. Ick. It took everything in me to keep from gagging. Couldn't stop the watery eyes and the slight curl of my lip, however. Anyway, when the moment of truth arrived....
He turned out just right.
Um, except for one nearly catastrophic mess-up. When moving the turkey from the oven, I bobbled the pan and some of the juices spilled over the edge and onto my mom's old stove top. More specifically, the juices went down into a fan switch on the stove. Next thing I knew, a strong electrical wire-like burning smell filled the kitchen area and smoke started rising from the stove.
My mom began panicking, while my dad calmly went to shut-off the circuit breaker to the stove and lower oven.
Result: My mom's stove is now no more. Broken. Destroyed. The plus side? She's been wanting a new stove for a loooong time, so I guess, in a way, it's a good thing.
It's just not Thanksgiving without something to make your stomach lurch into your throat and out your eyes.
Speaking of lurching stomachs...
Dallas Cowboys: Well, we won the game...it was in the palm of our hand...then Roy Williams coughed it up. There is a difference between smart football and selfish football. Roy Williams caught the pass for a first down, setting us up for a score. Did he protect the ball? No. Did he just fall down after catching the ball and getting the first down? Heck no. Did he carelessly hold the ball in one arm, continue fighting for unneeded yardage and fumble in the process? Naturally.
We won't even talk about our sporadic kicker.
So, all in all, the Cowboys put on a show and put up a fight against the defending Super Bowl champs. I'm proud of them...despite a little post-game nausea.
Survived cooking Thanksgiving dinner--Mission COMPLETE. And you know what? I actually enjoyed cooking. Maybe I'll audition for Hell's Kitchen next. Just kidding. Ramsay couldn't handle me...and I'd probably break his stove. ;)
Now we can officially say....HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Dallas Cowboys--That's 3 Wins, Baby! Mavs--Thank you! Jimmie Johnson--Just Wow.
Wonderful weekend for my Texas teams!
Dallas Cowboys: Yes, yes, it's only 3 wins for my Cowboys, but, hey, they're wins. The Cowboys handily defeated the Detroit Lions today before heading into their annual Thanksgiving Day game this coming Thursday. This year will be a test for my 'Boys--we have to face the reigning Super Bowl champs, the New Orleans Saints. Yeah. I may want to have my turkey well before the game. I'm already a little gag-ish.
Dallas Mavericks: After losing to the Bulls, the Mavericks came back and defeated the Atlanta Hawks, making my family very happy. Dirk is just pure joy to watch.
NASCAR NEWS: Jimmie Johnson and the 48 team won their 5th STRAIGHT NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship. That's 5 in a row, folks. Whether you are a 48 fan or not, it is hard to be anything other than completely gobsmacked by what he has accomplished. He and crew chief Chad Knaus are one heck of a dynamic duo. Congratulations to the 48 team and Hendrick Motorsports for a 5th consecutive title.
As for my driver, well, we just have to look to next season. I imagine there will be some changes to the 88 team. Something has got to give there. If given the cars (and that special kind of chemistry between crew chief and driver) Jimmie has had, I have no doubt Dale would be celebrating wins...and probably one or more championships. I'm a believer in timing--when it's right, it will happen. 'Til next year.

COWBOYS BEAT GIANTS, GET SECOND WIN! 2-7! Whoo! Hoo!
Yes, I'm elated with 2-7. Why? Because today, we looked like a football team. Jason Garrett looked like a head coach. We improved. Dez Bryant is the real deal. Kitna shocked me. AND we beat a damn good football team in the New York Giants ON THEIR HOME TURF. Hey, we're just returning the favor, Giants' fans.
I loved seeing a young, enthusiastic head coach walking on the sidelines. What's more, I have no doubt Jason Garrett loves the Dallas Cowboys--he WANTS more than anything for them to succeed.
One big way to win points with fans? Consult Jimmy Johnson. That's exactly what Jason did. Smart move.
Our offense moved the ball beautifully on the mighty Giants' D, while our own defense looked fiercer than I've seen them all season.
Winning a division game against one of our biggest rivals...I've just got one thing to say--HOW 'BOUT THEM COWBOYS!
Bring it back, 'Boys, bring it back.

The Cowboys Sink To An All Time Low...Coach Fired
I truly feel sorry for anyone who watched last night's "game" between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers. I hesitate to even call it a game, since use of the word game usually implies participation by two or more parties in a mental and/or physical contest. Green Bay played; Dallas did not.
Dallas looked lethargic, lacked passion, and had absolutely no sense of cohesion. It. Was. A. Disgrace.
Final Score? 45-7, Green Bay. Dallas is now 1-7, our worst start since 1989--you know, the year we had a new head coach, a new QB, a young team...a team that was building, growing, and eventually went on to win 3 Super Bowls in the 1990s.
This is by far the worst I have EVER seen my team. Granted, we were 1-15 in 1989, but we were GROWING...and, boy, did we grow. We had some pretty bad years after the Troy Aikman era, but we were REBUILDING. In 2010, we HAVE the team and the talent--there is NO excuse for this complete and utter collapse of America's Team.
Less than an hour ago, Jerry Jones reportedly fired head coach, Wade Phillips. Offensive coordinator, Jason Garrett, has been named the interim head coach. Good move. Not that Jason will ignite any changes, but at least it is a step forward...changes are forthcoming.
Another change I would like to see? Remove Kitna, play Stephen McGee. What do you have to lose? Nothing, I assure you. Clearly the Cowboys have some major holes to fill--this is the season they can experiment with...this is the time you see what you have in your cupboards, before the offseason, before the draft. Play the kid, see what he's got...see if you can develop him. Is he the future QB of the Dallas Cowboys? You'll never know until you give the kid a chance.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, we NEED a Jimmy Johnson-type coach. THAT is the formula that works. PERIOD. My vote? Bill Cowher.
I WANT THIS BACK (as tears sting my eyes...yes, I'm a true fan and I don't apologize for it):

Halloween...Ghosts...Spirits...Virgins???
Morning: No idea...slept straight through. Prince Charming could have been singing outside my window, tossing boulders at my house, and I wouldn't have heard a thing. Zzzzzzzz.
Wake-Up: ARGH! What in the name of Halloween is that banging?!?!? Loud--I mean--loud banging. Dear God! Must grab something to defend myself. Ah, perfect: my trusty hair comb and umbrella. (upon reflection, not the best self-defense tools of the trade, but when bleary-eyed and groggy, you go with whatever looks like something you can fling, jab, or flail). My heart pounding, I tiptoed down the stairs, carefully rounding each corner like a slinky cat...in hot pink slippers. Nothing. Everything was absolutely still. Suppose it could have been a neighbor, but the banging sounded like it was inside the house. Odd.
Lunch and Some Myths: "I heard banging in the house, but when I checked, nothing was there," I said to my mom over a baked potato, salad, and milk (no soda--excellent me!).
"Hmm, well maybe you heard a spirit," she said in all seriousness. She does love Halloween.
"Um, what?" She takes this Halloween thing a bit too far sometimes.
"You know, they say virgins and children are more susceptible to sounds and voices from the other side."
Way too far.
Although, this isn't the first time I've heard of this myth and, with hand on heart, I can honestly say I have had my fair share of unexplainable events (one involving my papaw). It's all a little difficult to explain, but I tend to believe in the paranormal. I do like Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures--fun shows. I fully intend to watch Ghost Hunters Live tonight.
Still...
"Why virgins do you think?" I asked my mom.
"Well, I would think it's because virgins have less of life's scarring and are more open-minded to things."
Why do moms always say things in a manner that makes complete and total sense out of something totally incomprehensible? Hmm. It's all very intriguing. Maybe this is my calling. Maybe I'm to be a world-renowned medium and can interview famous spirits about their first sexual encounters. Uh, um...oooh, maybe I can roam heaven's citizens for my "dead" soul mate. Err. Maybe not.
Late Afternoon and Evening: Cowboys lost...again...to Jacksonville. Pathetic. We are now 1-6. It's almost getting comical, like playing connect-the-dots to see what picture you will get. Right now, I'm getting a picture of a giant horse's a**. Wonder what it will be by the end of the season...oh, wait, it is the end of the season.
Dale Earnhardt Jr: Oh, God, it just gets worse. I love watching him drive in restrictor plate races--he's like Maverick, You Big Stud (Top Gun, for those unfamiliar), especially in these races...fun to watch and you marvel over the man's technique. Today, at Talladega, Dale was driving masterfully; he had a fast car; he led laps...then, all heck broke loose. He got into Jeff Burton a little too hard and....you guessed it: wreck. Dale's chances of winning? None. Day over. So sad. Just sucks for him...want to see him back in winner's circle.
It was one of those racing deals. Dale felt terrible, blaming himself for the incident. Honestly, when I see some drivers give interviews (or run away from them) and have zero accountability, it makes me proud to cheer for Dale--he's all man.
Night: Watching Ghost Hunters LIVE on SyFy. Fun stuff.
RING. RING.
Oh, Lord, I'm about to find out everything...married, not married, married, not married. What do I want to hear? Would it even change anything? No, it wouldn't...it couldn't. My friends used to say it's written in the stars. If true, why have the stars been buried in clouds all these years?
RING. RING.
BFF: "We suck. We suck bad. It's over. We're going 1-15. We're the worst team in the NFL."
Time for a BFF rant on the Cowboys.
Late Night: After diagnosing the Cowboys and answering some e-mails, I finished watching Ghost Hunters Live (no major ghosts found), ate some candy corn (very wrong), drank some soda (really must stop), and decided to solve two of the world's major problems (much better use of time). It's unfortunate my mind has been preoccupied with more pressing matters...like whether I prefer the caviar shampoo sample I received to Pantene, my old standby (don't think I prefer said sample). Hmm. Not a great use of my time.
I blame the Cowboys...and my toilet. It all started with toilet toes.
Oh, and the Texas Rangers lost. Gotta tell ya, I'm just hitting it out of the ballpark this year, aren't I? If this is any indication of what's to come when pesky-pissy-pricky phone decides to ring, then I may need to consider massive quantities of Advil...and Pepto-Bismol.

The End Of The Cowboys' Season
I'm fairly certain the end was already here, but when your QB gets knocked out of the game with a broken collarbone, you are officially done, signed, sealed, and delivered. Tony Romo is out for potentially 8-10 weeks. Now, you know I've been pretty tough on Romo. Then again, many lifelong Cowboys' fans feel the same way, and experts like Super Bowl winning head coach, Tony Dungy, as well as former Cowboys' stars, Tony Dorsett and Charles Hayley. I'm not alone in how I feel.
Thank our defense and special teams for the 20 points; Romo didn't have to do much, apart from not turning it over.
Now we have 38 year old John Kitna in at QB. Apparently, he's in there because he is seasoned and experienced. Some would argue he is indeed experienced...at losing. Bless him, I really don't envy his position, but fans do not want him in there to carry their team. We're about to go 1-5, the season is gone, why not take a chance? Throw in your underdog, Texas A&M QB, Stephen McGee. What do you have to lose? Give the kid a chance--see what he can do! He just might give this team a much needed shot in the arm (they already have a shot in the foot).
For now, I'll watch them self-destruct. They've given up. It's deplorable, depressing, and embarrassing. I can tell y'all one thing, if I could be down there, I'd have their butts in gear so fast it would make your head spin.
This team needs an overhaul, there is no question. Should this team go 1-15 with the on-paper talent they have, perhaps Jerry will look back to the 1990's and realize the formula that worked...the formula that put the fear in every opponent we faced...the formula that won us Super Bowls and made us the team of the 90s.
I want my old Cowboys back.

Rant On The Cowboys...yeah, I'm on a roll tonight....sorry
In case you couldn't tell by my *slight* need to rant, my Dallas Cowboys lost...again...after a bye week. Inexcusable.
Here's my short list:
1. Penalties--ridiculous, repetitive, inexcusable penalties.
2. Lack of discipline--let's face it, with Jimmy Johnson as the head coach, those penalties would never happen...or they would happen once and never again. I love Wade--he's a tremendous person, but the Cowboys need a Jimmy-type coach. Bill Cowher? Yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinking--that will never happen with Jerry Jones still needing control.
3. Predictable Offense--It's never good when you can call the play from your couch before it happens. What do you think the defense is thinking? I'm guessing they're laughing.
4. Good on paper QB--All the headlines will be how Tony Romo passed for over 400 yards. I could care less. Let me repeat: I DON'T CARE ABOUT STATS!!! If the stats don't translate into wins, then they mean less than nothing. Romo has better stats than Troy Aikman? Romo has beaten Aikman's records? Yeah, well, Troy brought home THREE super bowls. THREE!!! Romo can scarcely bring home a playoff win. **I should add that an ineffective offensive line is part to blame...Romo hit the ground more times than I can count.
We are 1-3 and at the bottom of the NFC East. Sad. Very, very sad.

My Cowboys WIN!!! FINALLY!!!!
Hurray!!! No depression, no mourning period necessary! No Tylenol followed by Advil when the Tylenol doesn't cut it. Nope, not this weekend. Why? Because my Cowboys looked like the team they can be and handled the Houston Texans, winning convincingly.
Let's keep it goin' 'Boys!
Let's keep it goin' 'Boys!
Dallas Cowboys Lose Again , But Dale Jr. Finishes 4th
I love my Dallas Cowboys. I always will love my Dallas Cowboys. Having said that, I am utterly disgusted with the start to this season.
Ugh, I need Tylenol.
My conclusions:
1. Poor play calling: Predictable. I'm a girl, sitting at home, watching the game on t.v., and I can tell you the play before it happens. There isn't that spark; there isn't any gutsy play calling. It's vanilla. Plain. Boring. Has Garrett lost his edge? Did he ever an edge or was his first season a fluke?
2. Red Zone Freeze: Even when they drive it down field, they seem to lock up in the red zone. For whatever reason, the plays that got them to the red zone are not getting them into the end zone. Mix it up! This team has so many options...it's literally nonsensical that they can't get touchdowns.
3. Missed field goals: Had Buehler made the field goal, we would have had a tie football game...and a chance to win.
4. Tony Romo's inconsistency: Many Dallas fans are split right down the middle on their feelings for Tony Romo--some love him, some hate him. I don't hate the guy--I'm just not sure he's the answer. I don't think he's a bad quarterback; I just don't feel comfortable with him. For me, it's about consistency. Today, I saw low passes, short passes, passes behind his receivers, etc. While watching, I'm wishing Troy could run down from the booth and onto the field. If I felt 100% about my QB, I wouldn't wish for my former QB (who I always felt 100% about). I was watching Cutler making passes left and right, and I wished he had a star on his helmet. That's not good. Not that Romo didn't try--he did drive us down field and had to watch Roy Williams cough it up. His two interceptions bounced off receivers' hands and into defenders eager paws. Still, I don't feel comfortable with him. And yes, I've seen Romo's stats. But, here's the thing about stats: they look fabulous on paper, but if they do not produce results off the paper, what's their worth, really?
5. Missed opportunities. I don't think there is a need to say more.
Note: Jason Witten wobbled off the field, clearly woozy after a tough hit (the back of his head struck the turf). He wasn't allowed to go back out on the field for the remainder of the game, but that didn't keep him from showing just how much he cares about his football team: Jason passionately and repeatedly tried to get back in the game. Bless him. His health is more important, but it was endearing to see him so ready to go back in and help the team.
God help me, I love my Cowboys, but watching this wasted talent is literally painful.
Forget Tylenol, I need Advil.
NASCAR: There is a silver lining to another Cowboys loss--Dale finished 4th today after starting way back in the pack (around 31st or 32nd). This is what I hoped for him: he has enough stress and pressure to deal with on a regular basis, but without the chase to worry about, he (and his team) can just dig in and go for wins and/or top 5 finishes. Way to go, Dale--really great driving!

Tag, I'm it!
Queen of the rant tagged me, so here we go with some questions!!! I'm kinda looking forward to this one!
Here are the questions posed by Queen:
1. What is your favorite day of the week? Friday. Not only is it the end of the week, but it's also the start of a weekend filled with NASCAR and football. :)
2. Cats or Dogs? I love both, but I've always had dogs and I absolutely adore them. I just love animals in general, though.
3. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? Okay, don't laugh...Cowboys Stadium. I know, I know, but I've never seen my Cowboys play and I would love to see them in their new home. *hides head to dodge tomatoes*
4. If you could have one super power, what would it be? The power of invisibility. Wait. I clearly already have it.
5. When you were younger, what did you dream of being when you grew up? This one is two-fold. From a very young age, I knew I wanted to help people, whether it was to make them laugh or just be a shoulder to cry on. I used to write letters to Santa Claus and ask for him to bring presents to children in underdeveloped countries, even if it meant skipping my house. Writer--I think I started writing stories long before I knew how to put pen to paper. And, um, I wanted to be Batman's wife...and a Bond girl. Um, yeah.
6. What is your favorite quote? "All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." ~Walt Disney.
7. What is your favorite TV show/sitcom? Oh, I have so many. I love Friends, Extras, Frasier, Gavin & Stacey, Torchwood, Doctor Who, Bones, Fringe, True Blood (did you already guess that one?), etc. The list goes on.
Before I tag anyone, I guess I should ask who would like to be tagged and I'll create a post from those who wouldn't mind it too much.

Looking On The Bright Side Sucks Somtimes.
Me: "Oh, just look on the bright side of things! There's always a bright side!"
Who am I? Flipping Pollyanna? Why don't I just belt out The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow while I'm at it?!
What a load of crap.
Just kidding. Kind of.
Cowboys lost. They played horribly. Not having our two O-line guys really hurt; too many holding penalties; inability to score once in the red zone; costly fumble; costly missed field goal...the list goes on. Shame.
As I said in my last post, I have a bright side to the loss. Swallowing my pride here. Just give me a second. Hold on. Ahem. Must clear my throat. Slight gag. Bright side: At least my NASCAR driver is happy, which will hopefully carry forward to the week ahead.
There we go. Done and dusted. Moving on...
Who am I? Flipping Pollyanna? Why don't I just belt out The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow while I'm at it?!
What a load of crap.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. = Redskins Fan = Dilemma
Dilemma: As a fellow Dallas Cowboys fan kindly reminded me, Dale Jr., my NASCAR driver, is a Redskins fan. Said Dallas Cowboys fan also believes I am a traitor to the Cowboys because I pull for a driver who pulls for the Redskins.
Personally, I see the two as mutually exclusive. In NASCAR, it's Dale; in football, it's the Cowboys. Simple as that.
So, what is this dilemma? There is no question Dale has had a rough season...last night was no exception. You know, I'd like to see the man have something to smile about--a Redskins win would do it, I'm sure. Still don't see the dilemma? Check this quote by Dale after last night's rough race:
"I'm going to go to the Redskins game (Sunday). Maybe that will cheer me up. If they get their ass kicked, that's not going to be good. Monday will be a bad day." (Dale's Rough Night).
Yeah. He's going to the game. The NASCAR fan in me would love to see him find that spark he needs to head into the week. The Cowboys fan that I am says, "Yeah, sorry about that, but ain't noooooo way. Game on. Bring it. Grrr." Okay, I added the grr, but still...
So, to address my fellow Cowboys friend, I will NOT be pulling for the 'Skins--THAT would constitute a traitorous act against my Cowboys. I WILL be cheering for my 'Boys with the same intensity I've always had.
However, in keeping with my need to try and find the bright side of things, should my Cowboys not make it out with a victory....GAG...I will take some solace in knowing that my NASCAR driver is a little happier.
Game on.

When I Watch Football
1. I don't talk, unless it's football related. I'm completely IN the game. I don't mind random, SHORT little exchanges off the topic of football, but don't expect long conversations--ain't gonna happen. This is especially true when my team is on the field...I'm there to support my team, so kindly shut it.
2. Sometimes, I will coach from the couch...and I don't suck at it, either...of course, I've had some darn good "coaches" (my mama, daddy, and papaw).
3. I occasionally swear. Because I don't make it a habit, people usually laugh, even though I'm soooo not joking...I'm in the zone, y'all.
4. From time to time, I will unleash on the refs. Who hasn't, right? Those little zebras get on my last nerve sometimes.
5. I can cheer with the best of them...expect cheering, clapping, etc. I'm not a sit-there-look-pretty female football fan.
6. If you are not a fan of my team, it's all good--I don't have a problem with healthy competition...just respect that we are all football fans here. IF you decide to take a walk down poor loser/snarky a** road, I will, in an extremely polite, swear-free manner, verbally go toe-to-toe with you...and I will win (playing around here). Done it before...with football players that are waaaaaaay bigger than me. (this is true and it was a blast--we had a great time!). It can actually be pretty fun. (Again, I'm playing around here, just in case you didn't realize...grrr...just havin' fun).
7. When the outcome of a game comes down to the last minute or so, I will pace. Don't stop me; it is something I must do. I must pace.
8. If my team loses, I need a mourning period...unless they play horrible, pathetic football, in which case, I will rant. If my team wins, I will revel in victory, but not to the point of being obnoxious.
I love this game. I love my team. This is me. If you don't like it...I'll meet you on the football field. Meow, darling.

Ahhhhhh, It's Back!!!!!
To commemorate his 500th start, Dale had a blah day at Watkins Glenn. Normally, I'd feel bummed and work overtime to find the bright side (which, I still did--he started 40th, finished 26th at one of his least favorite tracks, so it could have been much worse. Oh, and Jimmie Johnson wrecked and finished behind him. Definite bright side). But this is no normal NASCAR Sunday, for tonight we welcome back a familiar friend.
Football is here and I feel home again. My daddy played football--he wears his scars proudly. My mama is about as passionate a football fan as you are ever going to find. My papaw held football parties and ordered cakes featuring everyone's team mascots. I was born to love the game, and I do.
I am now blissfully watching my Dallas Cowboys play in the Hall of Fame game against the Bengals (of course once the regular season starts, I'm not so blissful...I'm passion personified and in the zone...don't mess with me). After a promising opening drive, our starters showed old signs of residing in red-zone hell. It's only the first preseason game, so I choose not to panic.
College, NFL--I love it all.
Welcome back old friend, welcome back.
*Um, strike thebliss....I've just unleashed on the refs. And so it begins.
